I'm just gonna put this out there: The Need is Dead is one of the best albums ever written. It's dark, complex, dykey, totally weird and generally genius. The weird thing about this record, and The Need in general, is that they're kind of under-appreciated. I mean, fans of theirs get how awesome they are, but this record (and the band, really) never blew up like they should have. Maybe their experimental, circus, sci fi, future metal sound isn't as palatable as some other bands of the period, but I honestly don't see how anyone could listen to this record and not fall instantly in love with it. It's just SO good and unlike anything else.
I could go on and on about The Need and "The Need is Dead", but I won't. Just go BUY this record. You won't regret it and you'll be supporting some of the coolest, nicest, most amazing musicians I've ever met. (I once saved a voicemail from Rachel Carns for probably a year).
If you're lucky enough to be in Portland, The Need (and Bangs!) will be reuniting one night only for a benefit show at Berbati's Pan. DON'T MISS IT PDX.
So here's the deal...I'm going to post one of my favorite songs from the album because, like I said earlier, The Need never got that famous. Since you may have never heard them, check out this song...BUT if you like what you hear please BUY THE RECORD!
