Explode Into Colors

Having internet friends is pretty awesome. You get to find out about all kinds of cool stuff that may have not come up on your radar without them. I can credit our #1 blog crush Soul Ponies for keeping us up on all things queercore and riot grrrl and introducing us to Portland's Explode Into Colors a while back.

Explode Into Colors is a three piece band of "weird aunts" who make bassy-funky-arty-ghosty-dancey-rock music, knit, teach drums, make clothes and pretty much rule. Explode Into Colors are actually pretty hard to describe (see above attempt) because their sound is actually unique, unlike a lot of stuff you hear "these days". The combination of baritone guitar, melodica, the occasional sax and sort of psychedelic production all comes together to make music that doesn't sound like anything besides good.

Claudia Meza, Lisa Schonberg and Heather Treadway have been making music together as EIC since 2008 and have put out a tape and few 7"'s on M'Lady's Records, Just For The Hell Of It Records and Kill Rock Stars so far. As far as I can tell though, there isn't a full length on the way anytime soon so pick up the singles while you still can here or here!.

You can also catch Explode Into Colors on tour with Quasi and tonight and tomorrow at SXSW. If you are stuck in your respective city and not at South By put on these songs and imagine you are sweaty and drunk and it'll be almost like you're there!
