I look like a chubby Jake Gyllenhaal

I have to thank my gal pal Angel for introducing me to Das Racist. When I first heard them, I was pretty blazed, smoking a Benson & Hedges, sippin some pop and kickin it. And then the music started playing. I asked her what the hell we were listening to? IT was total out of body experience. And "Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell" is now the official summer jam of 2009, joining the already sublime "Heavy Cross" Fred Falke remix.

The production is something to be desired, but fuck it. If the song gets stuck in your head, it's there regardless. Plus they're kind of hot in that I'd-fuck-them-and-not-tell-anyone kind of way. They are a great addition to hip hop, for me at least, joining Sgt. Sass and Benni E. I smell a tour plan.

R.I.P. MJ

Michael Jackson has died.

As a kid who grew up in the 80's and had the Beat It jacket and puffy Michael Jackson stickers, this is really sad news. As a pop and Motown lover, this is sad news. Not so hyped up on all the creepy allegations that came MJ's way over the last decade or so, but as a musician, he was amazing.

Enjoy some of the best pop songs ever written and imagine Michael Jackson hanging out with Elvis and James Brown in ghost world.

Men in like?

So the new record "Music For Men" has leaked and I can honestly say that for me, Gossip needs to rethink their strategy. Over produced, hookless...it's kind of a mess. That's not to say that there aren't any gems hidden within the record, there are plenty of them. "Heavy Cross", the first single, blew up with a fat bassline and Beth Ditto shouting her hot fat ass all over the track. "Men In Love" features a hook that will get stuk in your head for days. And surprisingly, there is a disco piano number that drops a few lines from The Slits' cover of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine". Pretty good. Other than that, it's a pretty demure record. I don't think Rick Rubin would've been my first choice for producer, I'd probably go with Dave Sitek or you know, if you want to go all the way out, Xenomania. I wanted them to go all fucking out. There's always hope for another LP...you guys can decide for yourself.

One more reason...

...To hate Perez Hilton.

So anybody who follows celebrity gossip at all probably already knows that waste of space Perez Hilton was punched in the face this weekend by Will.I.Am's manager outside of a club in Toronto. The story is that Fergie (of the Black Eyed Peas) went up to Perez and asked him why he wrote such nasty stuff about on his website while her outside of the MuchMusic award ceremony rehearsals in Toronto. The next night at one of the MuchMusic awards after parties, Will.I.Am approached Hilton and told him that he needed to stop writing about his "band" on his blog. And then things BLEW UP!

Well, they didn't actually blow up, but Perez and Will.I.Am exchanged words and Mr. AM's manager ended up punching Perez Hilton in the face 2 or 3 times!

Here's why: PEREZ HILTON CALLED WILL.I.AM A FAGGOT.

Perez Hilton who went off on the Carrie Prejean thing, Perez Hilton who's all up on gay marriage, Perez Hilton who is debuting Gossip videos, Perez Hilton who IS A FAG, called someone else a faggot because:

"My intention - however misguided it may have been - was to stand up for myself and tell this belligerent man that I had enough of his badgering and was not going to continue to let him berate and intimidate me. I wanted to hurt him with the word I chose, not anyone else...."

The excerpt above is from Hilton's 2nd Statement.

In his first statement, which was a video blog, he said "I was gonna say what I thought was the worst possible thing that THUG would ever wanna hear. I was standing my ground without being violent or physical, which I would never do."

First of all, Will.I.Am a Thug? No. Even if Will.I.Am were swinging a baseball bat at me I would never consider that dude "a thug". If you ask me, that's pretty inappropriate and I feel like if Justin Timberlake or some other singer who wears fat ties and fedoras (and who aren't black) were in Hilton's face he would never use "thug" to describe him. I think the Black Eyed Peas are total crap, and Will's solo music is even worse, but none of it has ever been even the least bit thuggish. His appearance doesn't suggest thuggin', his music doesn't promote the thug life, and telling a blogger to stop drawing cum on a bandmate's face could not be so intimidating that it warrants him being called a thug. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that's another poor choice of words.

Second, is punching a guy (or getting punched) really worse than having 10 million people who read your blog everyday and the rest of the U.S. and Canada hearing you use the word Faggot as a slur? I'm of the opinion that it's not.

I mean, here's the thing, I'm not disappointed or surprised as I have always thought Perez Hilton was a complete waste of space, but you would think he would know better. After GLAAD released a statement asking for an apology and everyone is giving him a dose of his own medicine by completely making fun of him, he's backtracking on what he said and trying to make it out like he's a victim of violence and all this kind of stuff. He's also suing the Peas' manager for like 25 grand for "intentional infliction of emotional distress".

Here's the deal "Perez" : You got punched. You deserved it. You actually deserve to get punched many more times in the face. You are an embarrassment to the gay community and you need to go away. F-O-R-E-V-E-R.

Okay? Ok.
Thanks.

forever is now

sounds like: mirrors, graveyards, wedding rings

I'm not sure if I understand what the above mentioned things actually sound like, but if mirrors, graveyards, and wedding rings=Forever then mirrors, graveyards, and wedding rings are AWESOME!

Forever is a Portland (via SF) based band consisting of Sheana (vocals), Jen (bass/vocals), Joel (drums), and Bob (guitar) (and formerly Dave and some other girl, guitar/guitar) and they are are totally punk rock in the cutest of ways. They make me feel like a sweaty teenager at a riot girl basement show drinking forties and smoking cigarettes while planning a revolution and dancing! I'm pretty sure there's a huge riot girl (or "grrl" if you are into that sort of thing) 2.0 movement brewing amongst us old enough to remember it but not really participate...and I'm pretty sure Forever are like the leaders of it...eventhough they might not know it yet.

Anyways...you'll get a chance to see their super fun live show in a town near you (they're on tour right now) and in Chicago on July 14th. They are set to play at Ronnie's, but I think are looking for bands to play with...so if you know bands who would like to play with Forever...drop us a line and we'll make sure it gets to them!

Scrawl something across your arms in lipstick and enjoy Forever!

Boner Dykes

So, I guess I'm out of the loop, but apparently there's some kind of ongoing feud between Beth Ditto and that skank Katy Perry? Awesome.

Anyways, "kitty purry" was angered when Beth called her a "boner dyke", or for those of you who are unfamiliar with the best thing I've ever heard, that's a girl who kisses other girls to attract men. This is HILARIOUS! Also-- When asked about calling the "I Kissed a Girl" drowning cat a "boner dyke" the only thing Beth said to clarify was "I feel guilty because it is such a funny expression and Hannah (Billie) didn't get the credit for it, but I don't feel differently than Hannah." A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! Katy Perry really struck back by letting everyone know she is "not impressed" with Beth Ditto. That's all you got?

Of course, I'd be selling Beth Ditto short if I didn't mention that she went on to speak about the seriousness of Perry's flippant pop garbage of a song's effect on the public. She went on to say "It's not about Katy Perry. It's about this song and its innocence on her part. To her, it's just this party song. But as a gay person, it's like, 'Oh, of course this straight person singing about kissing a girl goes straight to Top 40 and people buy this record. Who can give a f--- about real gay people?' That's what's really painful about the whole thing. That's what makes me laugh about 'I'm not impressed.' It's like, 'Oh, that's what you think? Of course, because you never thought about what a real gay person feels, and the impact that a song like that has on the gay world in a time of crucial civil rights.' That's just one of the examples of what the mainstream is thinking about queer culture, when actually, we are completely fighting for our rights right now."

Beth also relayed a story of exactly how much it sucks to not have equal rights. You can read the original article here.

Add this to the list of things that make Beth Ditto amazing!

Jessica 6 Remixed

Hey, Remember how a while back we posted about a new band consisting of members of Hercules & Love Affair called The Deep Red? Well, they are still a band, but they are now called Jessica 6.

We posted their track Fun Girl, which is a kind of dark disco jam, but it's gotten the remix treatment from German artist Keinemusik. I picked this one up on RCRD LBL, but you can pick it up here!

I'm really excited about this band, btdubs.

Beth Ditto for Evans

Photos of Beth Ditto's line for plus size UK retailer Evans have been released. The line will be offered in sizes 10-24 (or 14-32 in the UK) and are kind of 80's/early 90's style. Not necessarily my cup of tea, but this will surely be a welcome addition to the fashion world for bigger girls. The line will debut July 9th and for those of you interested and willing to pay a buttload for freight, Evans does ship to the U.S.!

Jesus was a cross maker

Judee Sill was a folk singer from the 70's, achieving critical acclaim for her 2 albums but not much commercial success. She wrote the song "Lady-O" for The Turtles which would later turn up on her own self titled debut. Filled with influences ranging from country, gospel, and piano pop, "Judee Sill" and "Heart Food" were critical classics. After many failed attempts at success and multiple accidents leaving her in crippling back pain, Judee Sill turned to drugs before dying in 1979 from a drug overdose.

30 years later, Judee Sill is being given the attention she so rightfully deserved. The independent label American Dust announced plans to release the "Crayon Angel: A Tribute To The Music Of Judee Sill" album. The album features interpretations by Bill Callahan (Smog), Daniel Rossen (Grizzly Bear, Department Of Eagles), Frida Hyvonen, Beth Orton, and Final Fantasy. It really is a great album and a new way to get into the beaty of Judee Sill's amazing songwriting. It's a shame it took so long for Judee to be appreciated, but I'm glad her time has come.

In other unrelated news, Quasi have signed to indie powerhouse Kill Rock Stars. Sam Coomes (Elliott Smith, Heatmiser), Janet Weiss (Sleater-Kinney, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks), and Joanna Bolme (Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks) have left Touch & Go Records and will release their follow-up record to "When The Going Gets Dark" on October 27th.

Credit Card Babie$ Video

YoungCreature fave MEN have another new video! It seems like just last week or something that we posted the video for Simultaneously. They're quick! Anyways, the video is directed by Matt Wolf and features some pretty sweet choreography. If you like the song, you can get that in one of our older posts here.

Also, if you are in Chicago, MEN will be stopping by Stardust at Berlin on July 10th, or check them out in your town!

Look at this girl's face. How did you NOT know Adam Lambert was gay? I heard his name and instantly knew the second coming of shitting glitter had arrived. And not in the good way.

Heavy Cross video

A month or so after the release of Heavy Cross, the first single from Gossip's latest album Music for Men, the video is finally out! The video is full of glitter, which is definitely having the best year ever, but is pretty much a straight-forward performance video.

I have to admit, their new music is growing on me (as I knew it would), but it kind of rubs me the wrong way that that douche Perez Hilton is world premiering Gossip videos. I know they're on a major, I know they hang out with Karl Lagerfeld, I know Rick Rubin produced their record...but really? Of all the media outlets in the world, Perez Hilton? He's all wrong.

Anyways, here's the video...

We Have Band

I don't know much about London's We Have Band, but I know that their new video for "You Came Out" is totally awesome. The music is good too. There's a making of and more info on the video over on (one of my favorite music blogs) Big Stereo, so watch the video here and then check it out!

Sister Mantos

Sister Mantos is music and performance project that will send you on a spaced out psychedelic road trip from the streets of L.A. to the coolest hidden disco in the hills of katmandu.  We asked Sister Mantos' main mystic Oscar a few questions about djing, performing, his top jams, and other stuff. We also have a couple of tracks for you to check out...so check it out!

YC: Your music has been compared to everything from Felix the Housecat to
Eats Tapes to Drop the Lime and has been simultaneously described as
"dark and brooding" while also having a "sugar coated accessibility".
With people getting so many different things from your music I'm
interested to know how you would describe the music you make and what
some of your influences are.

SM: I wanted to make something danceable and and at the same time i wanted
to make something that would be good for people who had headphones on
and wanted to trip out and have a psychedelic experience, some of the
descriptions i've heard of our live shows are Psychedelic Tribal
House or Transcendental Tranny Disco Punk or Grunge Cumbia.... i like
that it can be taken in so many ways.
In terms of influences there are TONS, i've been a music junkie since
about age 8. I used to listen to lots of R&B and Hip Hop and Metal as
a kid (Dr.Dre, Snoop, Lighter Shade of Brown, etc)and then i got into
old school Punk (Black Flag, Minutemen, etc) and in college i
discovered electronic music (Aphex Twin, Autechre, Eno, Kraftwerk) so
im really into everything and it all kinda seeps into my writing
process.

During recording of the record i was listening to lots of Suicide,
Brian Eno, John Cale's Vintage Violence, My Bloody Valentine and
classic House like Adonis, Joe Smooth, Ally-Us and Disco as well.
I looked to Eno for textures and mixing ideas and Suicide for
simplicity and lyrics and i looked to House and Disco music to try to
figure out the 'secret' to a dance beat and the placement/sounds of
bass drums and hi hats etc. Also i was obsessed with Los Angeles radio
station K-Earth 101, its the oldies radio station that plays Motown
and other oldies, i tried to disect the song structure of those
classic songs and tried to work that in to my songwriting as well. I
LOVE the Motown sound, it hasn't gotten any better than that!

YC: The videos I've seen of your performances look pretty wild! Do you
approach Sister Mantos as more of a performance/art project rather
than it being a more traditional band or you being a musician? It also
seems like you have a good amount of people participating during your
shows, is that something that is more for the live performance or do
you collaborate on your recorded music as well?

SM: I do approach the live show as pefromance art. I really strive to make
the live show an experience, something real trippy and fun.
The performance is an experiment where i get to let the music take
control and put me in a trance, sometimes i don't even remember what
happens. I also perform without my glasses so usually i can't even see
what's going on. But I still have a sort of trajectory that i want to work with, its
about trying to create a shamanic expereince with a sense of humor and
making people DANCE! Im trying to tap into a primal energy.
The band keeps growing and mutating, its really never the same twice.
When im on tour i've been able to have friends just jump in and im
hoping to do that again!

Recently i've had some dancers/choreographers join the stage show,
It's really a dream come true.
The band members who collaborated on some of the songs and are
featured on the recording are; Strawberry 06, Estebi, Apple Brains,
Larissa James and Trevwa.
I also started writing, recording and performing with some new
musicians; Nadia Comanceci (Alex Black of WEAVE), My Yahaira (of
XXYX)and Flutie Call (of LA FOG).
Its a real community, they collaborate and perform with me and i do
the same with their bands.

YC: Besides making music, you are also a DJ, right? Do you think being a
DJ influences the music you make or vice versa? what are your top 5
jams to play out right now?

SM: Totally. When im working on songs im always thinking "does this song
really bump?"/ "is a DJ going to want to hear this?" and recently i've
been composing songs with transitions and mixes that a DJ might like.
hmmm 5 top jams, these are the ones that are guarantueed booty shakers....

Midnight Magic- Beam Me Up (an amazing new band from NYC!)
Joe Smooth- Promised Land
Material & Nona Hendryk- Busting Out
Brian Eno- Third Uncle
Two Man Sound- Que Tal America

YC: I saw that you are playing some queer festivals in Europe and have a
lot of shows coming up here in the States in the coming months, what
else can we expect from you in the future? Are you working on an
album?

SM: A new album is totally in the works! I've got about 6 new songs almost done!
I've really been doing my homework on production and song writing. Im
also collaborating on lots of songs, it been a blast!
I've been focusing on latin and african rhythms and developing my
Conga playing too! Im writing some songs in Spanish with my My Yahaira
(of XYXX).
Recently i've started playing guitar and bass live at shows. Things
are changing!
Also my debut album, "Tough Love or the Fands of Hate" is now
available on itunes and will be released on vinyl this summer on
Sweetheart Society Records and Manimal Vinyl! ! Im so stoked!!!
I've also been working on taking the stage show to new levels, making
videos for all the songs, working on costumes and props. Recently i've
been working with choreographers and dancers, i'm really excited about
the future of the perfomrance. We're gonna do our best to bring back
some of the magic and insanity of a Parliement Funkadelic or Sun Ra
show. Its a lot of work, but we're READY!!!

YC: So, anything else you'd like to mention?

SM: I'd like to give a huge shout out to all the musicians, dancers and
artists that have joined me in the studio and stage.

You and Emil and everyone we know

Emil is a hard man to find. He is not that of famed actor Emile Hirsch, nor is he "Emil and Friends", a Christian band spreading the word one song at a time. Nor have I heard of his last name (Though I read somewhere it was Hewlitt? Whatever). There are barely any pictures of him on his Myspace or on the world wide web. Instead, all we get is a picture of the top of his head. Fine. Whatever, Emil.

Hailing from my home city of Boston, Emil & Friends churn out psychedelic-tropicalia-acoustic jams with fat synths and falsetto vocals. On first listen, I wanted to dance. The second listen, I wanted to grind my face on his. And the third listen, all I will say is that I needed to change my panties. Emil & Friends is gonna blow the fuck up somehow. Anyways, I'm gonna stop drooling on my keyboard and give some music links. Buy his full length, which should be out at some point this spring. This is what I hear. If it's a lie, Emil and I are gonna be in such a huge fight.

Are you ready to shit yourself...

I've always been somewhat of a fan of Christina Aguilera. Unlike other pop girls from that era, she really attempted to include a large amount of musical influences in her work as well as writing and having that huge voice. So when I first read about her 3rd full length a few months ago, I was pretty shocked. She had brought on Ladytron, Goldfrapp, and Sia to help out. Now we have news that Le Tigre (All 3 members) are working on her new album as well. If you remember, Le Tigre announced at the end of 2006 that they'd be going on an extended hiatus (We heard this from Sleater-Kinney as well...aka break up). So it's kind of cool to know that Le Tigre is still around, even if it is production duties. Here's the news link:

I'm kind of excited and I can't deny it

Girlzzzz Talkzzzzz

Sgt. Sass is a gay hip hop duo from Philadelphia, PA. Consisting of MC KD and MC DT (with DJ boXX), Sgt. Sass have been pounding out jams for a few years now, dropping the "Double S 4 Mayor" mixtape and now the "Body Rock" EP. Young Creature caught up with MC DT to catch up on what's happening (DT and myself met through Livejournal circa 2002...something like that). Warning: the conversation consists of talk of Chris Brown, weed, and other non sequiturs.

------------------------------------

Young Creature: so when are you touringggg
DT of Sgt. Sass: ummm we are going to california soon. and honestly, we've been so busy on this side with finshing up the cd and playing in the north east. it's been exhausting.
now, we have a weekly party to do starting on thursday...

YC: how long have you been working on it so far
DT: we worked on body rock for a year and a few months

YC: yeah that's like you have to maintain a crowd. so are you guys gonna be djing and like, playing a few sets here and there or is it a theme night
DT: a bit of both. we're mostly leaving the djing up to our dj lol. booking other queer and queer friendly artist. we have leif on thursday. he's simply amazing

YC: lol right? you should have like, little contests. like bobbing for apples and winning a signed ep or something
DT: that sounds like a great idea, actually it'd be cute real real cute

YC: like sgt sass' hipster hoedown
i like themes like that. and i think that's why i really like sgt. sass cause it's thematically consistent
definately, challenging oneself to think beyond the obvious
DT: it's just more interesting that way. i mean i love rapping just street things. everyday life but gotta keep it interesting you know exactly.

YC: definately, and i think that's why hip hop is so interesting, cause it's an exaggeration of everyday life. like i don't really care about doing the dishes you know
and i think that's why i love like, foxy brown, lil' kim, the cool kids, cause it's this sense of bravado that isn't really prominent in other genres
DT: omg i heard julie ruin at the club last night. your last statement just made me think of it... you know the dishes part
hahaha

YC: breaking dishes always makes me think of trina for some reason.
DT: not rihanna?

YC: lol over herrrr
DT: i know that's right. where were those dishes when chris brown was wildin out

YC: right? punch him right back!
DT: i know that's right. benni has this one lyric in a new song that goes yous a biter like a Chris Brown fighter

YC: seriously, how is he still famous.
DT: i dunno if i would do a chris brown diss
everyone knows he's horrible but yet he's still famous ugh

YC: i'd just be like, "your head is really big, not conceited, like genetically"
DT: and your teeth too

YC: he is our generation's donkey kong. oh gosh have you guys tried using video game sounds in your songs? like who usually comes up with a beat
DT: ummm. it really depends who we are working with. like demonstrate and drop was mostly daquan and steven bloodbath
hanging out and messing around and i always had the idea of celebrity skin in a dance song

YC: i really hate you guys for making that. when i first heard it, i was like oh shit a fucking hole sample!
DT: we didnt have our dj in new york last night and i couldn't find the instrumental and we couldn't do it !!! at a gay punk club like they nneeeded that

YC: that would've been awesome, cause you guys are total gay punk
DT: we are! andrew from limp wrist bboked us and we're opening for pansy division soon
it's like a punk rock dream come true

YC: gosh i remember we met through like, livejournal, and a majority of the conversations were focused on making some musical difference and here you are today lol
DT: YEAH. i never thought it would be through the tunes im making today but i guess it makes sense and it def works. always saw myself in a punk band but like you said we are a gay punk band

YC: i mean punk for me at least is about the message first and i mean, for myself, there hasn't been any gay hip hop around
so you can be proud that you're the first gay rapper i know
DT: awww!

YC: of like, 2
DT: who's the other one?

YC: ..myself
DT: i wanna put the demonstrate remix on the internet you should do it for realz

YC: no i'd have to get really stoned to do that again. i find my speaking voice to be real annoying. like have you ever listened to yourself talk? it really blew my mind how different i sounded than what i imagined
DT: took me a min to really like my voice but i think it works for D and i. him taking on the sgt. roll and me the sass roll.

YC: haha is that how you sort of imagine yourself. like are there designated roles, whatever they are, in the band
DT: it just kinda hsppened like thst you know. he's more gangsta and im more bratty

YC: from all the years rocking out to bratmobile i imagine

...at some point, I called him the black, gay Allison Wolfe...

YC: do you find any of the issues that were prevalent from riot grrl making the transition into sgt sass. cause like, when i first started solo stuff, i knew my instruments and like, production were going to be extremely limited so i made the decision to expand thematically to avoid boxing myself in
DT: that's a good question. i think it's a bit easier for us to play a straight male crowd then they could but i think at the same time that straight male crowd kinda thinks of us as a novelty act in the same light most straight male punks did riot grrrl acts
hahaha i read the question wrong...it wasn't really that hard because D and I knew we had to start somewhere with production just to make that point of being serious about this project. so it was lofi for us until people came along to help us more professionaly

YC: it's almost for me, listening to the record, that like this is everyday life. cause you know how it is, we all love to talk ourselves up and whatever, but to someone i think looking from the outside, it's really weird. cause we don't hear gay rap in the mainstream and when it happens it's like, some white dude on snl or whatever. and for people who don't get it, it becomes in their mind novelty. because it's weird, that there hasn't really been a huge blow up of it in indie culture
which leads to mainstream. so thematically and visually it's super foreign
DT: right. but there are so many queer rappers on the come up that soon it will make that transition from indie to mainstream like last night in new york, last offence (who was in the spin article and interview about gay rap like a month or two back), king jabber, and sonny lewis came out to support us

YC: do you guys have any aspirations for mainstream
DT: for me, if it happens - it happens

YC: see i didn't even know there was a gay rap underground. it's like discovering how good twilight is i just didn't know
DT: yes! mondo homo just happened which is a queer rap festival similar to homo a gogo

YC: see i didn't even know what mondo homo was
DT: we got invited at the last minute next year tho

YC: see that's super exciting, the touring. do you guys wanna tour at any point?
DT: we're working on it. i really wanted the west coast to work out but with everything else going here on the east, its been super hard to concentrate on that. we are however working on a florida tour with ricky diamond - he's this hiphop electro artist we played with recently and we totally connected with him

DT: i can't wait for california
YC: what are you guys doing out there

DT: homo a gogo!
YC: you know what, i knew that, tish posted the homo a gogo line up on the blog

DT: omg link me i wanna see everything like id ont even know
YC: ugh it's being slow fuck the world wide web fml

DT: oh sweet im playing with hunx and benni that day too
YC: ooooh nomi lamm

DT: legends with legends in the making
YC:i saw her open for tracy + the plastics one time, and she stopped a song cause people were talking and she couldn't concentrate. and she HAD to be paid attention to. it was amazing i was like, you DEMAND RESPECT BITCH I LOVE YOU

DT: i miss tracy adn the plastics like wynn girl 6 years ago inspired me so much
YC: she had a freak out on stage that night too. she like, stopped the show to talk about art and like, someone told her essentially to shut up and sing and she freaked out on them

DT: yeah i saw her do that hear toobut it was pissing me off because kids were just like talking and talking
YC: you should stage a freak out on stage

DT: i should lol
YC: see i love that stuff just like, i love the theatricality of shows. which is why i love the ssion cause they used to dress up as barn animals and jump rope with a plushie snake. like would you ever add a theatre element to your shows

DT: we plan on it. dynamic duos in history. dress up like bonnie and clyde. me in a dress, of course
YC: omg calvin and hobbes

DT: if our dj comes, dress up like nirvana or some dumb shit like that yeah crazy stuff like that we got it up our sleves
YC: see if i ever play live, i want an accompanying puppet show

DT: that sounds nice like crazy nice
YC: you can steal it

DT: when are you going to start?
YC: i dunno i have mad stage fright it'll happen whenever lol i'm real bad at that

DT: nah i thought i was too. you are a sag it comes natureal
YC: oh that's right fellow sag. it says on the www that we like traveling, getting to the heart of the matter, freedom, laws and meanings, and the general 'feel' of things. and it also says we dislike off the wall theories, being tied down domestically, being constrained, and being bothered with details. wait when is your birthday

DT: december 16
YC: you have the same birthday as benjamin bratt, paul van dyke, kaine of the ying yang twins, flo rida, and major lols scott storch. lol walt disney's wife lillian died on your birthday

FIRE4EFKT

FIRE4EFKT is Zach and Albert from YoungCreature fave SSION. They are somewhat mysterious, but from what I can tell they are primarily a DJ duo, although it seems as if they may make music or do remixes too.

Since I didn't know much about FIRE4EFKT, I decided to download some of their mixes to see what they are all about--and turns out I'm really impressed! The mixes I listened to jumped genres but never felt too awkward and there's a good mix of the familiar and totally weird, which is a great quality in my opinion.

FIRE4EFKT DJ'd a couple of months ago here in Chicago but I didn't go, I'm sure they will be back and I'm sure I'll go. I'll also be sure to keep you updated on what these gay demons are up to.

I've included a couple of their mixes and a couple of videos from their Myspace page. Check it out!

Vibrate like a Nokia

Major Lazer are getting ready to drop their debut in about 2 weeks, and I couldn't be more excited. The pet project of 2 of the most powerhouse producers in indie dance (Diplo + Switch), they've leaked some singles which have been getting lots of remix attention. You all know these DJs, both of M.I.A. production fame, as well as their remixes for other artists like CSS, Hot Chip, Britney Spears, Spank Rock, Bjork, and Nine Inch Nails. Last I heard, Diplo was producing some beats for the new Kelis record (the samples of the tracks MURDER), while Switch was producing the new Tricky record.

Their first single strays a bit from the baile funk sound we'd expect from Diplo and trades it in for a more dancehall surf rock feel. Imagine Lady Saw going batshit over "Rock Lobster": "Hold The Line" is sort of like that. Mr. Lexx and Santigold hop on the track and wreck the shit out of it. I can't wait to hear the entire album and I'm pretty sure it will be the soundtrack of summer 2009.

Major Lazer - Mary Jane (Mapei ft. Dr. Evil)

Make sure to pick up the album June 16th from Downtown Records (Home to artists like Amanda Blank, Justice, Mos Def, and Eagles OF Death Metal).

Teardrops on My Telephone

Hey, you remember Hunx from Gravy Train? Well, he has been working on a solo project for a while now called Hunx and his Punx. The project combines Hunx' kind of snotty gay singing with a D.I.Y. version of 60's bubblegum pop. I'm not sure if there is a record in the works, but so far he's released 2 double-sided singles and a single single, and has Don't Cha Want Me Back/The Last Time coming out this month. The video for his most recent release, Teardrops on My Telephone, just came out and is a campy good time. Check it out!

Foreign Exchange Students

(Yes I know this picture is for Fashion Against AIDS, it's the only photo I didn't have to work on myself where they appeared together, sue me for being lazy).

So iTunes has been upping their cred for me by releasing the second single in their series of Foreign Exchange. The first one was some crappy german band and +44 and frankly, I don't really care for +44. But the concept was cool and it was only time before they put 2 of the best recent electropop singers together on a single. Robyn covers Yelle's "A Cause Des Garcon", while Yelle covers Robyn's "Who's That Girl?". I love their take on one another's jams. I can only hope iTunes will continue this cool idea with more consistent bands (May I recommend Sufjan Stevens vs. Shugo Tokumaru? Or Vivian Girls vs. Les Plastiscines?) Anyways, there aren't any mp3s (You can buy the songs off iTunes and frankly, for 99 cents, it's pretty worth it) but here are some clips.

Robyn - Because Of Boys

Yelle - Qui Est Cette Fille?

GAYZ

These are some of the gems you get when you search various photo sites for "gayz". Pure genius.
