Opening Sequence

OPENING SEQUENCE is a simulation of the beginning of a film. Narrated by info, some content is found and some content looks like found content. The main character is an architect. She is married, she has morals. She is into dramatic simulation as a way to work out obstacles in her reality or shared realities.

Leilah Weinraub, born 1979 in Los Angeles, is an emerging director currently working in New York City. She is an MFA Candidate at Bard College in the film and video department. Awards include Frameline Grant recipient 2009, Wexner Center for the Arts, Art and Tech residency 2008 & 2009, IFP Project Involve Fellow 2007.

Her first feature-length documentary, SHAKEDOWN will premiere early in 2013. SHAKEDOWN is the story of Los Angeles' black lesbian strip club scene and its genesis. Owned and operated by women, underground and illegal in nature, the club Shakedown is the bolder, faster, younger iteration of this dance culture.

The film is a window into this world.

New Song from Agent Ribbons!!

This blog has been pretty stagnant for quite some time, but the new Agent Ribbons song has prompted a post! I'm not gonna get all long winded talking about how Agent Ribbons are my favorite band in town, or how they craft perfect pop songs, or how they are generally just magical ladies...there's no reason to get long winded because I've said it all right there. Their new song "Family Haircut" is a real gem of a song. Slightly dark, great harmonies, a driving drum beat, a gem. So anyways, enjoy the song and look for this song on the upcoming "Let Them Talk" 7" on Antenna Farm Records (09.11.12) and on a limited edition cassette due out on Portland's Cassingle and Loving It label. SO.GOOD.

Get Off The Internet!

Hey! It's been a minute, huh? Yeah, well, "life happens" and leaves little time for blogging. Anyways, one of the things that has been happening (or at the least the planning for the happening) is an awesome SXSW showcase I'm helping to put together. Myself along with Homoground, Feminist Music Geek, International Girl Gang Underground, and Soul Ponies have put together a great lineup of feminist and/or queer and/or awesome ally-filled bands and performers to hit the stage Wednesday, March 14 at Cheer Up Charlie's - right here in beautiful Austin, TX!! I'm super stoked on this event and am so excited that this idea that we had years ago is becoming a reality! If you are going to be in Austin for SXSW please come to the event and say hi!!

Anyways, check out some tunes from some of the awesome bands and performers playing our show!

Agent Ribbons - Birds and Bees

Chainbow - Dreamy

Christeene - Fix My Dick

No Mas Bodas - Carousel (demo)

The Back Pockets - LoveLike

The Shondes - Nothing Glows
